This patient completed a course of isotretinoin (Accutane) that controlled active acne but left mild residual scarring and post-acne texture change. Because deeper acne scarring like this typically doesn’t resolve with topical treatment alone, fractional CO2 resurfacing was chosen to remodel the scarred tissue and improve overall texture.
Given this patient’s skin tone, treatment settings were carefully calibrated for Asian skin, where more aggressive parameters carry a higher risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
As with all resurfacing for acne scarring, the goal was to make the texture less visually dominant. Results and appropriate settings vary by skin type, and treatment planning should always account for individual pigmentation risk.
